Meet Mrs. Mertens

Name: Mrs. Mertens
Family: Husband: Ken, a police sergeant in Deadwood
Cody: 18, a senior at Lead-Deadwood High School
Carston: 13, an eighth grader at Lead-Deadwood Middle School
Pets: Little Bit More Mertens: a black and white Shih Tzu

Education:

B.S. in Mass Communications with an emphasis in print journalism, BHSU, 1989
B.S. in Elementary Education, BHSU, 2007
Endorsements: kindergarten; early childhood special education
Favorites: I love watching movies, cooking, crocheting,  and spending time with my family. I also love reading! Some of my favorite children's authors are Tommi dePaola, Jan Brett, Barbara Peck, Jane Yolen and J.K. Rowling.
Classroom: We sit on the floor (or on pillows). I've found that students can work longer/more efficiently when they are comfortable. If you get tired of sitting on the floor, you are welcome to move to the conference table.

You may chew gum, eat healthy snacks, take breaks when you need to. If it's not a problem for you or the people around you, it's not a problem.

We respect each other's space. Most of our work is cooperative, but if you need quiet time or want to work alone, you are welcome to move to the "office" desk.

If you have a question, problem or an idea you want to share -- please talk to me! If you feel shy, you can write it down and put it in the blue basket for me.

Philosophy of Life: Wag more, bark less.
